Continue toward Telouet, a historic village known for its famous kasbah. Visit Telouet Kasbah if opening hours and access conditions permit. This historic building reflects the influence of the Glaoui family and the region’s rich architectural heritage.
Next, travel through the scenic Ounila Valley. The route passes red cliffs, small villages, and fields shaped by the mountain landscape. Take time to enjoy the views and photograph the traditional earthen architecture.
Later, continue toward Dades Valley. The landscape gradually changes as the mountains give way to dramatic rock formations and winding roads. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel or guesthouse and relax after the journey.
Overnight: Hotel or guesthouse in Dades Valley.
Day 2: Dades Valley Hike and Authentic Local Life
After breakfast, discover Dades Valley on a guided walk through its remarkable landscapes. This region is famous for red rock formations, green gardens, and traditional villages. Walking offers a closer look at the countryside and its daily rhythms. Your guide can adapt the route to your interests, available time, and fitness level.
As you follow the local paths, admire the unusual shapes of the surrounding cliffs. Depending on the selected route, you may pass cultivated fields, small settlements, and traditional houses built from local materials. The contrast between the red mountains and green valleys creates excellent opportunities for photography.
Along the way, learn about Amazigh culture and the traditions of southern Morocco. Discover how local communities have adapted to the climate and landscape over generations. You may also learn about traditional agriculture, family life, and community connections.
If local circumstances allow, meet residents and gain a better understanding of everyday life in the valley. Later, return to your accommodation and enjoy some free time before dinner.
Overnight: Hotel or guesthouse in Dades Valley.
Day 3: Dades Valley to Merzouga and the Sahara Desert
After breakfast, leave Dades Valley and travel toward the Sahara Desert. Your journey begins with a visit to the impressive Todra Gorge. Towering canyon walls rise above the river and create one of southern Morocco’s most striking natural attractions. Take a walk through the gorge and admire the surrounding cliffs.
Continue through the landscapes of southeastern Morocco. Along the way, discover traditional villages, palm groves, and dry plateaus. These changing environments reveal the diversity of the region. Depending on your itinerary, you may also stop in local towns to observe daily life and enjoy the scenery.
As you approach Merzouga, the landscape opens toward the famous Erg Chebbi dunes. Upon arrival, prepare for a camel ride across the dunes, usually scheduled for the late afternoon.
Ride through the Sahara as the sun begins to set. The changing light brings out beautiful shades of gold and orange across the sand. Afterward, reach your desert camp and settle into your accommodation.
Enjoy dinner and experience the peaceful atmosphere of the Sahara. Depending on your selected camp, the evening may include traditional music and time beneath the stars.
Overnight: Sahara desert camp in Merzouga.
Day 4: Merzouga to Ouarzazate via Southern Morocco
Wake up early to admire the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. The morning light creates a beautiful scene across the Sahara. After breakfast at the camp, return to Merzouga and meet your driver for the journey toward Ouarzazate.
Leave the desert behind and travel through the changing landscapes of southern Morocco. The route passes rocky plains, traditional settlements, and stretches of arid countryside. Along the way, observe how the landscape changes between desert regions and the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.
Depending on your itinerary, the journey may include stops in villages and palm-filled areas. These breaks provide opportunities to take photographs and discover more about local life.
Continue toward Ouarzazate, a city known for its kasbahs and film studios. Its strategic location has made it an important gateway between the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara. The surrounding region features historic buildings, earthen architecture, and landscapes that have appeared in numerous film productions.
Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy some free time. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore the city or visit a nearby attraction if included in your itinerary.
Overnight: Hotel in Ouarzazate.
Day 5: Ouarzazate to Marrakech via Ait Ben Haddou
After breakfast, begin the final day of your 5-day authentic Morocco tour. Travel toward Ait Ben Haddou, one of the best-known historic ksars in southern Morocco. This fortified settlement features traditional earthen buildings, narrow lanes, and defensive walls that reflect the region’s architectural heritage.
Explore the village and discover its historic role along important trading routes. Its distinctive appearance also makes it a popular filming location. As you walk through the settlement, enjoy views of the surrounding hills and the nearby river valley.
After visiting Ait Ben Haddou, begin the journey back to Marrakech. The road crosses the High Atlas Mountains and follows the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, admire mountain panoramas, rocky slopes, and traditional villages.
Depending on traffic, weather, and road conditions, the return journey may take several hours. Your driver will take you toward Marrakech, with suitable stops when time permits.
